Marathon/Running Playlist

Hey, did I mention that I ran a marathon?!!

Playlists are key! I know a lot of people run without music, and I have done that several times myself! Especially when I am running with someone else. There are also those quiet eerie Saturday mornings that you are alone in except for the wildlife… but that is neither here nor there! I am here to discuss playlists and how clutch they are for the marathon or for distance running in general! I thought long and hard about what songs I wanted to motivate me and power me through 26.2 miles and get me to the finish line. While I intend to list my entire playlist of 100+ songs, I want to take this time to tell you that I didn’t repeat a single song on my run, and there were some I would not have minded repeating!

I had a base list of about 35 songs that helped during all speedwork and such and several I added along the way. They are on a playlist on my iphone called Happiness. Because running is my happy time. Wherever I am, as long as I am running, I am in my happy place (cheesy I know…) — if you had asked me 4 years ago if I would ever like running, I would have said “Guuuuurrrrrrrlllllll, you cray cray” but one day something changed. Why I got started running and what changed is a story for another day! I like to create a playlist where I can listen to any song at any time and it will pump me up or carry me through — basically, I make a list and pop that shit on shuffle!

MVP SONG OF THE PLAYLIST:
Eminem, Til I Collapse — It came on right at the right time and I couldn’t even begin to tell you how much I needed to hear this song!

Honorable Mentions:
Macklemore, And We Danced — just a happy song, reminding me that every step, I would remember for the rest of my lives — reminded me of the advice I got from Jeff and Barrett about remembering every moment and looking around to take it all in because I was really doin it.

Beyonce, We Run the World (Girls) — Just makes ya wanna dance. Queen Bey is fierce!

Drake, Started from the Bottom — Came on during the Speedway and all I could think about was the journey I have been on. Where I came from this small crap hole of hell that I put myself in and here I was, running a marathon. Bouncing back from dark places and surgeries and here I ammmmmmm

AC/DC, Highway to Hell — heard at mile 23.8 when I literally thought I was on the Highway to Hell. Good timing AC/DC, you have always had it, in college and this past weekend

Fall Out Boy, My Songs Know What you Did in the Dark (Light em up) – great song to hear around mile 9, feelin strong. Solidifies the thoughts of #likeaboss 😀
